As a master of reinvention, the daughter of Dutch immigrants, and Canada's longest-running Annie Sloan Chalk Paint stockist, Kathie has spent over a decade helping homeowners give their tired spaces and solid wood furniture a beautiful second life.

The Creative Pivot

  • Stained Glass Legacy: Spent 17 years as a professional stained glass artist. She designed custom installations and three-dimensional glass domes shipped across North America. [2]
  • A New Beginning: Pivoted her creative career after a hot air balloon accident caused a severe back injury. This made cutting glass impossible, sparking the birth of her decor studio in March 2011. [2]
  • The Flagship Studio: Expanded her business from a single shop footprint to buying her own historic building on Peel Street. It is the oldest standing building in New Hamburg's core. [1, 4, 5]

Her Art & Offerings

  • The Chalk Paint Pioneer: Trained directly with industry legend Annie Sloan. She traveled to England, France, and New Orleans to master specialized furniture painting and waxing techniques.
  • Full-Service Restyling: Specializes in transforming old solid-wood dining sets, bedroom furniture, and outdated kitchen cabinets. She prefers eco-friendly repurposing over buying new.
  • Textile & Upholstery Addict: Offers premium custom drapery and custom upholstery services, housing thousands of high-end fabric books for window treatments, blinds, and furniture updates.
  • Curated Creative Supplies: Stocks top-tier maker brands for DIYers at Kathie Jordan Design, including Farrow & Ball paint and paper, Fusion Mineral Paint, Iron Orchid Designs (IOD), and Mint by Michelle decoupage papers.

Design Philosophy

  • Soulful Reinvention: Believes that upcycling your home goods is wonderful for the environment and directly feeds the creative soul.
  • Community Culture: Nominated for prestigious regional Arts and Culture honours for her local craft contributions. She loves empowering everyday homeowners through her upcoming creative workshops.
