About Us
Kathie Jordan Design, located in Historic Downtown New Hamburg, Ontario, is a European influenced interior décor studio. Kathie, the daughter of Dutch immigrants, opened the doors in March of 2011 offering a full service interior decorating studio creating quality custom drapery, custom upholstering, and repurposing/restyling classic furniture with the help of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint™. Our services continue with custom recreations of your dining, living, and bedroom pieces as well as kitchen cabinets. We work closely with the area’s finest upholsterers to provide all of your custom upholstery and decorating needs.
Prior to opening the Kathie Jordan Design shop in New Hamburg, Kathie was a stained glass artist for about 17 years, creating one of a kind installations where she would design and create stained glass projects such as the dimensional domes in the attached pictures. Kathie shipped her domes across Canada and the United States until she and her family were in a hot air balloon accident where she sustained a back injury, making the process of cutting glass very uncomfortable and almost impossible to complete. Hence the birth of Kathie Jordan Design in New Hamburg.
Kathie was introduced to the Annie Sloan Brand of amazing paints in the Spring of 2012 and immediately knew that the high quality paint in its gorgeous array of colours was a great fit for them. Kathie, along with her husband John, son Mackenzie, and daughter Shelbie are a family of artists and creators and have always been involved in DIY of some sort, even completely rehabbing a 1910’s house, an 1850’s apartment, and a 1919 cottage style house. "It was very exciting to add the paint line to the shop as it offered our customers options and the opportunity to decorate affordably for themselves or hire our talents and have us paint pieces for them” Kathie explains.
"We teach workshops and host presentations and continue to learn more techniques ourselves that we can share with our customers. Learning directly from Annie has been amazing and we were very honoured to have her teach us and our fellow stockists in our shop in 2017” Kathie further states.
Sustainability is the Jordan's mantra, and now more than ever, the importance of recycling quality furniture is near and dear to their hearts. In their shop (and throughout their 147 year old century farmhouse) you will find beautifully painted pieces, from Mid Century Modern to French Country Traditional, along with other lovely one of a kind finds. They believe that character and soul is created by using previously loved pieces in your home.
The art of mixing old and new and the mixing of styles is something the Jordans love to play with. Their shop is a continuous evolution of colour and style providing an invitation to many different tastes in home decor.
In short, we are a store of possibilities
